I used to live in London, where I worked in the theatre. Then I got the bizarre job of teaching road safety to the U.S. navy – in Marble Arch!
A few years ago, I did an ‘Escape to the Country’. I now live in a tiny Herefordshire village, where I scandalise the neighbours by not keeping ‘country hours’ and being unable to make a decent pot of plum jam. Home is a converted Oast house (Old agricultural building used for drying hops), which I share with my two beloved spaniels, husband (also beloved) and a ghost called Zoe.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel widely, though prefer to set my novels closer to home. Perhaps more research is needed? I’ve always wanted to base a book in the Caribbean!
I am addicted to Belgian chocolate, Jane Austen and, most of all, Strictly Come Dancing.

Deputy DA Margo Keyes is looking forward to this trip with as much enthusiasm as she’d have for a root canal. There’s the Philly summer heat, the high school reunion she’d rather avoid, and the speech she’s to give as a last-minute stand-in for her boss. Mostly there’s facing high school crush Tony Alessandro. When she’d last seen the Philly cop, he’d danced her out of his sister’s wedding reception to a dark room where he’d kissed her senseless. If his nephew hadn’t interrupted they’d have…well, who knows? He disappeared on some family errand. She went home to Portland, Oregon and she hasn’t heard from him since.
However, her homecoming turns out better than expected. The reunion and the speech work out. Even better, she and Tony pick up where they left off in that dark room and the only heat that’s unbearable is what they generate in bed.
Margo returns to Portland relieved she’s put a whole continent between them to give her breathing room to sort out what they’ve started. Then his work with a federal task force investigating industrial espionage brings him to Portland. And an accidental swap of messenger bags on her flight home puts her in the middle of the investigation.
Tony wants her out of the way of the bad guys and focused on him. She wants to use a secret from her past to wrap up the case. And maybe avoid having to think about what’s happening between them.
They can’t both win. Or can they?

A writer and glass artist, I’ve been
published in anthologies, magazines, newspapers and in the
brochures, newsletters and reports of my consulting clients and employers.
Unless you count speeches for politicians, I’d never written fiction until a
cast of characters began inhabiting my daydreams. A glass artist and a gallery
owner were there. So were a sculptor and a jewelry designer. When some dead
bodies showed up, a couple of cops and a deputy DA arrived. Soon they began to
fall in love with each other and work for their happy ending. Bingo. I was a
romance writer.

“On the brink of Civil War, lumberman Reagan Burnsfield tries saving the family business by marrying the beautiful debutante, Amanda Bruester. Instead, his actions plunge him into the hidden world of the Underground Railroad, pitting him against rival suitors, secret lovers, bounty hunters and a false murder accusation.”

Reagan Burnsfield has no interest in finding himself a wife. But that’s exactly what he must do when a lumber contract falls through and threatens the family business. Marrying the beautiful debutante Amanda Bruester for her dowry will solve his short term need as well as give him the wife of his dreams.

His courtship is hindered until they are arrested after stumbling upon bounty hunters hotly pursuing runaway slaves. In the ensuing scandal, Amanda chooses marriage over betraying her Aunt Gabriella’s illegal activities in the Underground Railroad.

Expecting resentment for the forced marriage, Amanda’s fears of a loveless union are laid to rest when Reagan’s passions seem tempered with apparent affection and tender regard. Yet, despite being properly wed, another suitor, Derrick Banning, is determined to break apart their hasty marriage. He fancies it is he, not “that arrogant lumberman,” who should be enjoying Amanda’s wealth.

While snowed in at his lumber camp, Amanda discovers papers that imply Reagan’s offer of marriage wasn’t the sacrifice she thought it to be. Despite his assurances that he acted to protect her, Amanda begins to doubt everything about him.

To complicate matters, mysterious scratches on Reagan’s back seem to point to infidelity, further proving he’s the untrustworthy knave Derrick claims him to be. When a prostitute’s body is found in his office and Reagan is arrested for murder, Amanda flees to her aunt’s house until the mystery can be solved.

in 1867!

Drew desperately hopes to win not only the tea clipper
race, but also Lucy’s heart. Bravely facing that challenge, Drew saves the life
of British ambassador Sir Charles Gray; rescues a young Chinese girl, Mi-Ling,
from a child brothel by cutting cards for her; fights pirates; goes swimming
with a great white shark—and faces the greatest love decision in his life.
While his graceful tea clipper, Night
Arrow,
wins first place in the tea race, has Drew won the most important
challenge in his life? Will the lovely Lucy marry him?

Frighteningly, Caleb Bryant is both still very much

Maggie’s Child: The book is real page turner and one which I would rank up there with Josephine Cox, Marie Joseph and Anna Jacobs, three of my all time favorite authors of historical fiction. It gives us a deep insight into the hardships of life in the nineteenth century. The heroine, Maggie, suffers dreadful cruelty at the hands of her miserly husband and through the love of her child, whom she cannot acknowledge she is determined to rise above it and eventually finds true love. This is a beautifully written book which I can highly recommend and I am really looking forward to the next book by this outstanding author. Christine Ramsey. Poet/Reader. UK.

prettyju_cu_laces01 (2)

RIPPER, MY LOVE, by Glynis Smy, is in no way an ordinary historical romance. Full of twists, turns, and plenty of nail-biting suspense and scares, it seamlessly blends an emotional love affair with a shocking, history-as-it-might-have-been, crime story. Ms. Smy has created a wonderfully Hitchcockian novel; we readers know The Ripper’s secrets nearly from the outset. Our characters – especially Kitty and her extended family – do not. We realize (à la Mr. Hitchcock) that the figurative bomb is on the bus. When will it go off? Who will live? Who will die? (Yorba Linda, CA USA)

Ripper, My Love: I enjoyed this historical novel set in the time of Jack the Ripper’s frightful rampage. The author has invented yet another theory to the Ripper’s identity and a very entertaining one it is… although, in a dark and creepy sort of way. The author pulls you into the era with vivid description. Jumping between the point of view of a serial killer and the point of view of an innocent young woman was indeed a wonderful contrast to show two distinct sides of a killer. If you enjoy historical novels with a bit of romance and a twist of evil, check it out!  Biker Babs Reader USA

Ripped Genes – Sequel to RML: This book has had me gripped for the last 5 hours , an amazing follow up to Ripper my Love and now feel like the story has finally been completed . The first few chapters took me back to the characters I loved in Glynis Smy’s first novel “Ripper My Love ” and brought me back upto date , with out giving away too much to potential readers , the story then has an amazing and intriguing twist that had me totally hooked !!!! Her best novel so far and if she keeps writing like this , she is going to be one hugely respected and adored author. Most of the action takes place in and around a growing Negro settlement somewhere in northern Montana during the late eighteen hundreds.  In the midst of gunplay, bank robbing, and kidnapping is the beginning of a love story and the start of trying friendships.

Caine Fuller is an exceptional looking man as well as a gifted gunman and reluctant outlaw. His journey over the years leads him from Texas, where his name was made, to Montana. In a way, it is his last stop. He can’t go any further and he refuses to go back, especially, after meeting the smart and beautiful, adventurous, Veronica
Murray. Even though things are a bit difficult, they quickly fall in love. Caine’s enemies are on his trail and because he wants Veronica, he decides not to run, but face any threat head on.  Amazingly, Veronica proves to be a woman experienced with trouble. I’ve lived most of my life in southeast Missouri, USA. After attending college in Memphis, Tennessee I spent several years in southern California. Though I enjoyed and appreciated the diverse cultures, I found I’m just a country girl at heart, and I’ve since moved back to Missouri. Missouri is where I’ve been able to put pen to paper and go! Writing a historical novel for me was a sweet and lovely experience because the old west to me is the one of most romantic times in American history.

his personal history, can he be trusted with their hearts?

As new family
bonds form, all discover the power of friendship and love to overcome loss so
they can face life with renewed hope.
What Mary says about her book Winds of Change

I’ve always read that you should write
about what you know. And in a very real sense, I am with Winds of Change. While I did extensive research on Boston, sailing and plant varieties, the
‘what I know’ part came from my heart. Readers will see a theme in my novels –
disparate people being brought together and blending to build a new family.
It’s what I didn’t have as a child and grew up yearning for. Now my characters
will get their happy ever after because it’s my book and we’ll work together to
make it happen!

Excerpt

I’m going out on an official dinner date. Jennifer rolled that thought around in her head as
she closed up for the night and got the kettle ready for her morning tea. A real date with a good-looking man who
looks to have some fire left in him.
Getting ready for bed, she wandered over to
her closet and turned on the light inside. What to wear tomorrow night? She dug
into the back of the closet and drew out her favorite little black dress. It was
a classic. She checked the size tag and realized with some surprise it might
actually be loose on her. Between yoga, spinning and all her other activities
she had come down at least one size and maybe two.
Oh happy day, she thought. At last, a dress that didn’t shrink in the
closet when I wasn’t looking.
She decided to try it on just to be sure. A
moment later she looked at herself in the mirror. Even without makeup she had
to agree she still looked pretty good. No high heels any more but the
copper-toned patent pumps looked pretty. Add a bit of jewelry, a wide belt to
show off her trimming waistline and she might turn a head or two. Just one
certain head would be fine.
I have a date!
Better get my beauty sleep,
she thought, and toddled off towards the large roomy bed that might
have a visitor soon. She mentally wiped out that thought, ordering herself to
get her mind back into safer territory. But, the idea snuck right back in. The
handsome man she’d secretly lusted after for years was now flesh and blood.
And, he was a completely down to earth human being who was fascinating to talk
to and very easy to look at. Who knew a
man could be eye candy at his age?
Jennifer mentally chided herself for letting
her imagination run wild. But, it wasn’t her imagination. Ben was very real,
very male and very, very tempting. Who could resist? She smiled dreamily and
snuggled into her pillow.

About Mary

Mary
lives and breathes writing and editing. When not working as a writer/editor in
her day job, she’s editing novels and manuscripts or working on one of her
novels. With Winds of Change as her
debut in women’s fiction, New Beginnings
will follow this fall with a strong suspense angle. Road to Tomorrow comes up next and continues her small-town series
featuring a cast of warm and not-so-warm characters.

Each of
Mary’s novels deal with social and medical issues as sub-themes. Winds of Change explores PTSD and
clinical depression, while New Beginnings
looks into the socio/psychopathic personality. Road to Tomorrow exposes some of the life-changing effects of
Traumatic Brain Injuries through a secondary character. Never clinical, each
story is focused on the main characters and their journey towards a more
fulfilling future.

About the author:

Glynis Smy was born in England, in the coastal town of
Dovercourt, near Harwich. She left town to nurse in London, and lived there for
the first few months of her marriage. Three children, two pharmacies, a nursing
career later, she is now free to write. Emigrating to Cyprus with her husband
in 2005, enabled her to concentrate upon writing poetry.
Having always kept her poems in a drawer, Glynis decided to
celebrate her fiftieth birthday by publishing them in a book. This was followed
by a second, and she was contacted by a writer who told her she enjoyed reading
her work. An on-line friendship formed, and for three years they communicated
every day.
Reading a short story written by Glynis, her friend
commented it would be better as a novel, and encouraged her every step of the
way. Sadly the family contacted Glynis and told her that her friend had passed
away. This was the day Glynis wrote The End on the novel. Slowly the writing
world rallied around and drew Glynis into the community. Courage to set up a
blog and share her work paid off, and novel two was completed with the support
of a new mentoring friend.
Glynis loves the Victorian era, and gets carried away with
researching for her novels, often procrastinating for hours on an attractive
website or two.

Author Bio:

Rhea Rhodan resides in Minnetonka, Minnesota and has been telling herself stories since long before she could write. She attended the University of Minnesota with a focus on Journalism, then Brown Institute for Broadcast Journalism. After many adventures, misadventures, and a couple of short marriages, she found the love of her life in Regensburg, Germany, and has been living happily ever after since.

She journaled those adventures extensively (some might say rabidly) beginning in middle school, but didn’t combine her writing and her story-telling until several years ago, when one of them got out of hand. As she tells it, the story grabbed her by the throat and shook her like a rag doll until she had the entire thing written down. A full-length fantasy novel with a strong romantic element, it took over a year to write and edit. Although the bones of the story were good, Rhea felt she had more to learn about the craft of writing before it could be submitted to a publisher. While honing her skills (a delightfully never-ending task), she wrote a sequel to that story, and a third of another before writing and submitting her debut romance novel, Finding Grace, for publication. She is currently writing and editing up a storm in an effort to keep up with her muse.

Since childhood, her stories have always had a twist of magic or a touch of the paranormal. When asked why she chooses to write romance, she says, “Because I believe in happy endings. While there may be no guarantees in real life, there are certainly no real happy endings without considerable risk, effort, and faith, either. If you can’t dream it, how can you expect to live it? I want to offer possibilities for others to dream it, so they, too, can experience this kind of fulfillment.”

She welcomes feedback and fan mail :>). You can join her on Facebook, too. Rhea is always happy to meet new friends.

Is there still a chance of finding Vanessa’s father alive and well? Can she take a chance on loving Lowell, risking the possibility of his dying too? And what is the dark secret that has driven him back home, a secret that has convinced him there’s no longer any room in his heart for love?

REVIEW

“Sydell Voeller has a magic touch with description. I could almost feel the sea spray misting my face as Vanessa Paris sailed across Puget Sound and hear the splash of water as the crab pots were hauled in and the day’s catch tallied. Oh, yes, and the rustic mailboxes with wild blackberries growing nearby. What a lovely place to live. And I got to visit there for a while.”
– Kathy Ishcomer, Under the Covers Book Reviews

“A romantic suspense that does a good job keeping the reader guessing who did it. Fisherman’s Daughter has opened my eyes to a whole new avenue of fresh romance stories. I know I’ll try another and I highly recommend all readers do too.” – WCRG on AOL Reviewer Board

“Ms. Voeller has chosen a great setting for her book, and takes the reader there with her knack for subtle details. I could easily picture the wild and rugged Tawanya Island and the eclectic assortment of people who inhabit it.”
– Rhapsody Magazine

“The mystery surrounding Vanessa’s father’s disappearance was nicely done. Author Voeller set up why and whodunits very neatly. Suspense, tension, and then resolution followed each other right on cue.”
– Teri Dohmen, Crescent Blues Book Reviews

“I read The Fisherman’s Daughter in one sitting. It was a page turner for sure. The unexpected mix of heated romance and heart-wrenching intrigue made for an unforgettable e-book that I would recommend to any romance aficionado. Sydell Voeller grew up in Washington State, but has lived in Oregon for over thirty years.  Throughout her twenty-year writing career, her published novels for teens and adults have reflected her love for the Pacific Northwest’s ocean beaches, inlets and waterways, evergreen forests, and mountains. Sydell resides in Oregon with her husband. They married in 1971 and have two sons.
Pet lovers, the Voellers have provided a home for several cats, a dog, gerbils, hamsters, and a turtle–but not all at the same time! A small rodent cemetery still occupies one corner of their backyard. She and her husband enjoy camping, reading, playing Scrabble, day trips to the Oregon coast, and spending time with their granddaughter and pampered feline.
When Sydell isn’t writing, she enjoys camping, walking, amateur astronomy, reading, and surfing the web. In 1987 after the publication of her first novel, she was named by the Washington County Mushaw Center, Woman of the Year in Communications.
Formerly a registered nurse, Sydell now teaches writing correspondence courses, sponsored by the Long Ridge Writer’s Institute (a home study course in writing short stories and articles) in West Redding, Connecticut.

Published on the anniversary of the Civil War, Alice Lynn’s Volunteer for Glory is a timely read. Lynn’s interest in the Civil War was sparked after dreaming of a beautiful girl and the two men who loved her. A common enough theme, but was it enough for a book? The sticking point was the background. When her characters proved resistant to relocating to another place and time, she decided to do some research.

When a graduate student in military history took her to the library at Portland State Univeristy,
she gained access to The Official Records of the War Between the States. Several history books later, the hook was set.
Battle scenes were written with books and maps spread over the room, so that troop movements could be plotted with accuracy.  Of course, her characters and their regiments were fictional, but they were attached to real life commanders. And it was vitally important that justice be done to these bloody struggles.
The heroine’s life also profited from the research and the exploration of a woman’s struggle when her husband is at war, and she finds that her heart is divided as well.
The result is Volunteer for Glory

When Stuart, Rachel’s husband, joins the volunteer cavalry, she will have to find the grit and determination to survive on the small Illinois farm.  What she doesn’t expect is to fall in love with Jared Westbrook, a handsome neighbor. United in war, the two men are divided by love for the same woman. Who will Rachel choose?  Or will the war itself make the decision for her?
