How Not To Murder Your Grumpy by Carol E Wyer

How Not to Murder Your Grumpy cover frontIs your Grumpy Old Man getting under your feet? Is he wrestling with retirement? Are you wondering if you should bundle him up and entrust him to basket-weaving classes? Then this book could be the answer to your prayers. This light hearted guide is packed full of lively ideas, anecdotes and quips. Not only does it set out to provide laughs, but offers over 700 ideas and ways to keep a Grumpy Old Man occupied. From collecting airline sick bags to zorbing, you will be sure to find an absorbing pastime for your beloved curmudgeon. There are examples of those who have faced extraordinary challenges in older age, fascinating facts to interest a reluctant partner and innovative ideas drizzled, of course, with a large dollop of humor. Written tongue-in-cheek, this book succeeds in proving that getting older doesn’t mean the end of life or having fun. It provides amusing answers to the question, “How on Earth will my husband fill in his time in his retirement?” It offers suggestions on what might, or most certainly might not, amuse him. Ideal for trivia buffs, those approaching retirement, (or just at a loose end) and frustrated women who have an irritable male on their hands, this book will lighten any mood and may even prevent the odd murder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic “How -To” Guide for dealing with your Grumpy 26 April 2013
By Lady Wings
Format:Paperback
Carol Wyer has a wonderful sense of humor, as anyone who has read her other books is well aware of. In “How Not to Murder Your Grumpy”, she entertains the readers with an A to Z list of activities guaranteed to keep your grumpy out of your hair. Some of the suggestions are very unusual but most are quite doable.

You can tell the author did a lot of research to come up with all this material and with Wyer’s light-hearted style of writing (including some terrible jokes and puns), the reader never gets bored.

This is a fun book to read and I recommend it to everyone, even to those who do not have grumpies to deal with. You will enjoy!

This review is from: How Not to Murder Your Grumpy (Paperback)
The title alone was enough to get me to read this hilarious how-to. Ms. Wyer lists, from A to Z, hundreds of suggestions to get your own GOM (grumpy old man) off the couch and living life (and out of your hair). I’m sure many of us can sympathize with the “man-at-home-driving-me-nuts” syndrome for which this book was written.

Not yet at that special time of life when you too will be able to spend quality time 24/7 with your significant other? Read this book to get a step-up on what to do to send him on his way, happy and engaged, leaving you to get on with your own interests. Written in Carol Wyer’s inimitable and witty style, HNTMYG is chock-full of great ideas (and some definitely tongue-in-cheek) for anyone at any age to live life to its fullest. My main take-away? You’re never too old to try new things–be it hub-cap collecting or Morris dancing. And now, I’m off to sign up for mud larking…

This review is from: How Not to Murder Your Grumpy (Paperback)
If only I had come across this fun book sooner, because I have my own Mr Grumpy, and trying to find ways to keep him occupied has been a nightmare, but here Carol E Wyer has come up with such fantastic ideas for hobbies and pastimes, many of which I would never have thought of. I’m gifting my Mr Grumpy this brilliant book for his birthday. Even if he doesn’t find something he might like to try from the suggestions detailed, he will indeed be kept amused and out of my hair as he laughs along with Carol’s vibrant, humorous style of prose, and learns from the many well-researched interesting facts and fascinating figures presented, all in the light-hearted manner we have come to expect from this author. This is a great book for Mrs Grumpy too, as most, if not all, of the suggestions can be enjoyed by either sex. Who says retirement can be boring? Never – not with so much to explore and do. Another success for Carol Wyer, I am sure.

Bu Ku Kilo by Art De Groot

bukukiloBu Ku Kilo provides a projected glimpse into the lives of army vets as
they fought and died in a controversial bloody conflict that took the
lives of over a million Vietnamese people and 58,000 American soldiers. In
the end, America left in disgrace.

Although the soldiers fought valiantly and repelled and destroyed tens of
thousands of the Viet Cong (VC) and North Viet Nam Regulars (NVA), in the
end our political will crumbled Nixon just got us out. It was a sad coming
home for most vets and even now 44 years later the scars are still
everywhere.

“Read my story. You will be enlightened at the events that took place. It
may help you understand or get over your cross you may still be carrying
on your bleeding shoulders. That conflict called Nam,” Bu Ku says.

About The Author

Art De Groot was born in North West Iowa in 1942. He earned an Associate’s
Degree in Electronic Technology in early 1963 from DeVry Technology
School. In 1965, Art was drafted into the US Army. Arthur was then given
orders and shipped to Viet Nam in September of 1967, with a rank of E-3.
This is the setting for Bu Ku Kilo.

After Viet Nam he was discharged from active duty and joined his wife, Joy
and daughter Tammy in Seal Beach California. They soon had two little boys
named Randy and Kevin. Art worked as an electronic technition for National
Cash Register for a couple of years followed by a 40 year career in Real
Estate as a broker, property manager and a developer in Orange County
California. Presently he is retired but still operates a small residential
rental operation.

Art and his wife Joy and their Golden Retriever Patience, can be observed
frequently at Upper Peters Canyon regional Park having their early morning
walks as their home of 35 years is nearby. They also enjoy traveling in
their class A motor home named the “Outlaw.”

The Hooker’s Daughter by Dale Stanten

In 1950s Jewish Boston, Dale’s mother established a home-based business as a prostitute to remedy her husband’s inability to provide for his family. At age six, the author was answering the front door for johns. Neighbor children were forbidden to play with her and even the Girl Scouts asked her to leave. What a terrible irony, in a family with so many strange and twisted realities, her gay sister, “coming out” at age 16, was the only thing her parents focused on as contemptible.
The Hooker’s Daughter is a story of survival, driven by a strong will and an ability to extract positive qualities from a dysfunctional life, punctuated by immoral and illegal behaviors. The author was able to reconcile the reality of her environment with what she wished it to be. The resulting tenacity enabled Dale to cope with her terminally ill husband and widowhood at age 37. Her unconditional love for her mother challenges the reader to examine beyond that which is socially acceptable and identify that which is universal.

Author Bio

While raising her young family, Dale obtained her RN degree and practiced psychiatric nursing. She parlayed her medical and extensive sales experience to become CEO of her Destination Management Company which for twenty years organized conventions, corporate events, and meetings for local,   national, and international guests. Dale conducted numerous educational seminars and assisted in developing a tourism college degree program.
She serves on the North Shore Board of Juvenile Scholarship Aid, volunteered as a Big Sister, and is an active member of Power of Women, National Association of Women on the Rise, and The Arizona Humanities Consortium for the Arts. A life-long learner, she studies Kabbalah and Torah and shares her personal journey to encourage others to rise above their circumstances, no matter how difficult, using their inner strength to determine the course of their own lives. She resides in Boston and Phoenix with her husband.

America’s Addiction to Entitlements: Not What the Governed Meant by Eddie R. Dunlap CRNA, DNP

Dunlap_Cover
Who’s Entitled to Entitlements?
Political Commentary Asks the Tough Questions
Is America becoming bogged down with entitlements? As political ideology heats up between conservatives and liberals battling for the will of the people, this important issue is now under the spotlight.
America’s Addiction to Entitlements: Not What the Governed Meant offers a look at what entitlements are doing to the country. Following in the footsteps of early philosophers, the founders of the United States forged a new governance model, where individual sovereignty and personal liberty enabled us a glimpse of our own potential if unabated by the tyranny and oppression of government.
The author believes that liberals have facilitated a slow decline from the heights of true freedom to a new level of slavery. Social programs with good intentions have led Americans into chronic dependency, destroying the independent character that was uniquely American. Can we regain our stature and defeat the entitlement mentality?
