No Angel by Joseph Alexander

This novella is a dark and surreal, British homage to ‘Catcher In The Rye.’ The central character Michael tells us the story of his dysfunctional family and promises to reveal why he killed his girlfriend, Kelly. He also blames himself for the suffering of his younger sister, Kim, whose life is spinning out of control. As the story develops, we begin to discover more about the extraordinary psychological connection between Michael and Kim and the reasons for Kim’s agony. Will Michael’s attempts to ‘help’ his sister finally succeed in destroying her and how exactly has he been punished for his crime? Ultimately, the reader is made to question the borders of consciousness itself. Those who enjoy experimental fiction will find this an evocative read.

“No Angel” by Author Joseph Alexander is a gripping is a psychologically thriller that left me on edge the entire time. His writing style reminded me a bit of Author Steven King’s “The Dome” in that you get deep into the disturbed mind of main character Michael. What Michael thinks, feels, sees plots, the vulgarity in his language is so distraught and brilliantly written that it quickly become riveting and captivating.

There is much more to the story that meets the eye. No spoilers but the twists around every corner are endless and nothing, I repeat, nothing is, as it seems. In short, this is an astounding book that is well written in a fast paced manner that I enjoyed for two nights on end. Highly recommended many times over.
