Luminary by P.S. Meraux

new Luminary book coverWhat would you do if you had not one soul mate, but two? And before you could meet either they were both killed. That’s the fate of Emily Wren unless a race of super immortals, called the Paragons and their Luminary companions, who live in the domain between reality and the tangible, intervene. The soul minders have one duty, matching up soul mates and bringing much needed magic into the world to help humanity. But is there more at stake than the happiness of one human girl?

A new take on Synergy

The idea of synergy, or the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, has been around for a few hundred years and is often used in conjunction with discussions on teamwork. However, author P.S. Meraux has taken the concept to a whole new level with her fantasy novel, “Luminary”, and it is a fantastic read. The idea that soul mates, when placed together, actually release magic into the world is an original one for sure. Add to that a character, Emily, whose chances of this pairing have been lost and you have an intriguing story. There is much more to this fantasy series and I can’t wait to dig into Book 2 to continue this most original adventure.

Very pleased!

Luminary by P.S. Meraux was such a great read and unlike anything that I have read before previously. Emily had two soul mates, but they both died before she could ever meet them. The idea of this itself fascinated me and made me eager to read the book. I liked the plot of the book and the interest in finding a soul mate. The book is well written and it is easy to connect to the main character Emily. I was always a fan of the Twilight series and this book reminds me a lot of that. There’s a perfect mix of romance and action that will surely please all readers. Even if you aren’t into this type of genre, I would say that this book really has something for everyone!

Great fantasy read

I thought ‘Luminary’ was a really unique read. I liked the premise that combining soul mates is the way to bring more magic into the world. This is the first YA fantasy that I’ve read in a while, but now that I’ve spent a little time with the seemingly intangible Paragons, I’m getting that all-to-familiar itch to delve back into the genre with full force.
It’s easy to see from her writing that PS Meraux is well-read in the types of captivating stories that pull the reader into their world. I felt a certain connection with Emily Wren, which gave me a vested interest in her happiness and the larger impacts for magic in the world in general.
I also have to say that it is so refreshing to find a book as part of a series that is actually full-length. Meraux doesn’t cut the off in the middle to convince us to read on, unlike so many authors.

The next hit series?!

Luminary is one of the most unique and entertaining books I’ve ever read! The concept was absolutely brilliant and something so different from things I’ve read in the past. I loved the supernatural aspect of it, and mix in the search of a true soulmate made it all the more interesting. For such a unique concept, I found it easy to follow along, which I always enjoy. I’ve read a lot of the “hit series” out there, like Twilight, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, etc. and I can definitely see this as potentially doing just as well. I really look forward to reading the rest!
