A Classic Story of Man vs. the Sea
Two boys are tested at sea when a fun adventure turns into a quest for survival in the new novel Long Trip Home: Stand Up Paddleboard Fantasy.
Akoni and Micah are two brothers living in Lahaina, situated on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Akoni is the elder brother. He uses a standup paddleboard that Micah likes to ride on while he paddles. After teaching Micah to paddle, Akoni decides to modify an ocean-going kayak into a standup paddle kayak so they can paddle across the seven-mile-wide channel that separates Maui from Molokai, where their grandmother lives. They embark on their journey when the weather is good and the trade winds are gentle. They commune with playful dolphins and later have an eye-opening visit with their grandmother, from whom they learn things about their heritage that they never knew.
But when it comes time to return to Maui, strong winds and ocean currents force them out into the open sea. The brothers must work together as they struggle for survival on their unexpectedly difficult Long Trip Home, in this story that takes on the classic theme of man’s fight against seemingly insurmountable odds.
